2025 lecture season continues on Wednesday 30th July
July's lecture features a talk by Andy Sturgess, who over a 20 year period and 10,000 hours, built a full size Lancaster bomber cockpit using original wartime parts and then configured it to work as a flight simulator! In May 2023, with a crew of four, he then "flew" the Dam Busters mission exactly 80 years after the original operation on 16-17th May 1943. Andy and his crew followed the exact route taken by David Maltby, who breached the Mohne dam that night. The talk covers this unique achievement, the research, building the aircraft and flying the mission along with information about the evolution of the Lancaster and the major role it played in WW2.
