Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre
We are now open for the 2024 season.
The visitor centre contains an abundance of information, and displays many artefacts that relate to the aircrew and ground staff who flew and offered support to the squadron during its presence at Metheringham.
On the website you will find plenty of information about what we do, some of our history, and how you might support us through membership, a donation or by becoming a volunteer. Better still, why not pay us a visit?
Visitors are able to get up close and sit in our very own C47 Douglas Dakota aircraft. Please note that access is via some steps.
You will find our volunteers knowledgeable and welcoming.
Our shop offers an extensive range of books and gifts related to the famous ‘Bomber County’ and the units that operated in and around Metheringham.
*including 106 Squadron from September 1939, through its time at Coningsby and Syerston.

Words cannot express how much I enjoyed this visit. This was just meant to be a short visit before the trip home. This ended up being one of the best museums I’ve ever visited. Wow! The staff are amazing and incredible people. So friendly and welcoming and very knowledgeable. My first stop was the memorial garden which has a rather amazing spitfire model. The gates to the garden are so beautiful. My second stop was the Dakota hangar. Amazing aircraft. Even more so is the fact that you can go inside it and get a real feel for the conditions those brave people went through. The guide explained everything in great detail. You even get to sit in the cockpit and the radio operator and navigator seats. Absolutely fascinating stuff. I cannot thank the guide enough for all the great information. My next stops were the various remaining airfield buildings with all the incredible displays. So much information so many stories they’ve managed to put together. My next stop was the cafe! This was also inside an old building. This isn’t just the cafe it also has pieces of aircraft, displays and also a huge model Lancaster. You can also pass through to the memorial room which is very touching. This wasn’t the end of my visit either! You can walk a bit farther down past the cafe and go inside the old air raid shelter. There is a small shop selling all sorts of books/ photos/toys etc. Staff deserve yet another mention for being friendly, helpful and so welcoming. The leaflet for the centre says this museum is a hidden gem in bomber county. This is truly an understatement. I will definitely visit again and again because there is just too much to see in just one visit. Thank you to all the staff for making this such an enjoyable day out!

Lovely museum, and what they have done with the Dakota is amazing, when I went in 2017 it was out in a field looking a bit battered. Now it is inside looking amazing. And the man we spoke to gave us loads of information and I was able to walk up the Dakota and sit in the pilots seat. The rest of the museum had lots of amazing items and pictures all about the history of RAF Metheringham.

After looking online for things to do near tattershall we came across this place and decided to visit. We are so glad we did! What a wonderful place to visit that's dedicated to the 106 squadron. The volunteers here are so friendly and welcoming and have so much knowledge about the squadron. The dakota they have there is a super bonus as you can actually sit inside and get a little idea for what those brave soldiers were seeing. An absolutely wonderful and sometimes emotional place to visit, will be back again for sure. Thank you 106 squadron and thank you volunteers for all your hard work.

We had a wonderful few hours at Metheringham Airfield Centre in mid July 2023. The volunteers are all very welcoming and knowledgeable. It is clear that they are passionate about their centre, and it shows in how beautifully presented everything is. The star of the show has to be the glorious Dakota, but the tea, coffee and tea cakes in the Coffee Stall were a close second. Incredibly dog friendly which is wonderful - our border collie was made to feel very welcome. If we didn’t live so far away we would be here every weekend.

Wonderful smaller air museum dedicated to the106 Squadron. Very knowledgable and pleasant volunteers who were most helpful. Well maintained displays. Delicious food at the café. And all dog friendly.
