Volunteering at Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre
We are recruiting at MAVC
Can you answer yes to any of the following?
Our vision is a place where RAF Metheringham is never forgotten.
Our mission is to tell the stories of the old RAF Metheringham airfield, 106 Squadron RAF, No. 5 Group RAF (part of Bomber Command), and the US 52nd Troop Carrier Wing. We have been open since October 1993 and our mission is to preserve and conserve the buildings and collections forming part of the former RAF Metheringham airfield (operating 1943-1946). There is also an on-site hangar housing a C-47 Dakota aircraft that is restored and maintained by a small team of volunteers.
The visitor centre is not only a popular tourist attraction but also a place of remembrance for families of those who served at RAF Metheringham or with 106 Squadron. We are proud that people are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re sure you'll find volunteering with us a rewarding and enjoyable pastime and somewhere you'll meet with like-minded people.
There are volunteer roles for all adult ages and abilities and full training will be provided.
During the open season (end of March to the end of October) MAVC is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays each year we need front of house volunteers to keep the centre staffed for visitors.
Volunteer - Front of house
The role of a front of house volunteer is varied and will include training in all aspects of running the visitor centre, including customer service, staffing the onsite shop, guiding visitors, staffing a small cafe, administration, supporting school visits and keeping the centre clean and tidy for visitors.
Volunteer - Museum
Throughout the whole year the role of a museum volunteer includes helping to care for the museum’s varied collection of artefacts, engineering roles, administration, entering data into computers, scanning, digitising, photography and research.
Volunteer - General
Throughout the whole year we work behind the scenes and volunteers are welcome to join us to help the general volunteer team with maintaining the buildings, marketing, social media, events, administration and general volunteering to help keep this gem in the middle of nowhere going.
If you are interested in finding out more about any of these roles or would like to talk to us about volunteering in general, then please contact us via our Enquiries Form, or alternatively email Nathan at [email protected].
A descriptions of the roles below can help you to consider the experience we can offer you as a volunteer at MAVC.
Can you answer yes to any of the following?

- Can you spare a few hours each week or even each month?
