What a refreshing change to visit, the volunteers were very knowledgeable and keen, I visited because my great-uncle George flew from here, the staff were very helpful and Roger the archives man spent a good while looking at my uncles records, I cannot recommend here enough, keep up the good work, and I shall definitely be back in the future.

Although this is only open on a Wednesday*, don't let that put you off. There is a gift shop, cafe as well, with some interesting buildings from World War 2. However, the most fascinating part of our visit, a real Dakota aircraft which with a very pleasant guide, you can climb on board and even sit in the cockpit. Learned an awful lot from the people at the museum, who were so full of enthusiasm and all wanted to share Metheringhams story. This wonderful hidden Lincolnshire Gem.
*Webmasters note: We are of course open at Weekends and Bank Holidays also.

An enjoyable visit to this lovely little museum.
The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere was pitched just right. The Dakota is a must and the volunteers couldn't do enough for you to learn why here... thank you we will return.

We called in here on Saturday, well worth the visit as we spent well over 3hrs there. Run by volunteers and they certainly knew their stuff infact the talks they gave regarding RAF METHERINGHAM was EXCELLENT. We even got to look inside a Dakota plane and my partner had the opportunity to sit in the cockpit, wow truly amazing. You can take your own picnic or buy food, if the cafe is open. It's also dog friendly and families with children are welcome too. We were told about the airfield that is situated down the road at Blankney Fen, most of it is now on farmers land but you can get a feel of it how it was back in those days, there is even still some of the runway there to also a memorial of 106 Squadron. Great day out only cost £5 each to get in, fabulous day out and certainly well worth the visit.

From Alan and Jane Camfield.
On a weeks holiday , we visited the Metheringham Airfield on the Sat 6th August . There was a nice comment in the visitor book at our cottage that prompted us to go , and we're so glad that we did.
It is amazing what you have all done to bring this facility up to this standard , it is full of fascinating exhibits , and most of all , the volunteers are so friendly and knowledgeable. Our guide for the Dakota was so good , it made the visit so rewarding.
We left comments and leaflets back in the cottage to entice people to visit.
Once again many thanks , and it is inspiring to see the amazing story of Metheringham and 106 Squadron being preserved in such a professional manner .

peene_acolada Third week in a row that I've sat in the cockpit of something amazing. Today - the Dakota at the fabulous #rafmetheringhamvisitorcentre. So much history lurking in the fields of Lincolnshire and such a lovely bunch of hosts. Genuinely think this may well be one of my fave places ever.

Loved visiting this site. Where else can you actually get inside a Dakota and sit in the pilots seat.
Staff were brilliant and so knowledgeable. I can well recommend this place.

Hi
I would just like to praise all the staff we met today, its the first time we have been here and it was most enjoyable, the staff manning the shop, cafe and a Scot called Brian, who was very helpful at answering my questions about the Dakota and showing us around the aircraft, also his colleague who answered some of my more technical questions.
Its been such a great experience that we will be back later in the year.

To the Staff at Metheringham Airfield Museum Visitor Centre
Having visited the museum for a second time with more of my family, I would just like to let you know that we have all had an absolutely amazing experience and have learned so much more about our late uncle Dennis (Rear Gunner, Sgt Ford DS), and in particular the life and experiences he had serving with 106 Squadron at Metheringham, until his Lancaster crashed over Northern France. This we had gained from accessing and viewing the extensive resources, artefacts and memorials the museum has built, collected and preserved within the original buildings and areas of the airfield.
Furthermore, with the dedication, enthusiasm and extensive knowledge demonstrated by the fantastic Volunteers, the time we spent there has made the experiences much more impacting and enjoyable and we are extremely grateful for their devotion to the museum and its continued preservation.
We will most certainly return later this summer and look forward to meeting the team once again.
The story will undoubtedly continue.
With our special thanks to the Volunteers – Jim, Brian, Rick, Catrina, Chris
Much appreciated

I write this note to thank all the volunteers that made our visit to the airfield and it's museums a most fantastic day.
We had recently discovered the IBCC where we found the name of our late uncle, who was based at Metheringham. So our visit answered many other questions, where we also discovered more information about the challenges and routines that the Airmen and Airwomen faced.
I look forward to our next visit to the Airfield.
Kind regards
Tim Ford

Wanna say a huge thanks to Alistair, Ian, Nick, Maureen and all the volunteers who are clearly passionate about their centre and all related, a friendlier bunch of people you wouldn’t meet in a days march. Today I realised another thing on my bucket list to sit in the hot seat of a Dakota, fond memories of that exact plane flying over my home as a boy during its civilian service with Air Atlantique on the mail flights, thoroughly enjoyable experience and highly recommended.
Thanks again to you all, without the dedication of volunteers like these these memories could not be kept alive.
See you again sometime when I come to see 607 at Waddington.
Best Regards
Ian Gypps

Polish Heritage FlightContinuing our Lincolnshire Tour today at the Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre
Set amongst original wartime buildings from RAF Metheringham the centre tells the story of this Bomber Command station and that of its resident 106 Squadron.
Dakota KG651 now sits in a purpose built Hangar and the volunteer team have some very exciting plans. The aeroplane is open to the public too.
The displays are presented brilliantly with lots of artefacts and human stories. Some utterly heart breaking.
A slight ‘Polish’ connection spotted today. One of the Spitfires P8503 that served with the Fighter Affiliation Flight based at Metheringham also served with 315 Squadron. (See photo)
Do go and visit and allow plenty of time. There is so much to see here. The airfield site is a short drive and there is a Memorial and lots of clues to it’s wartime past.
This is “Walking The Ground” at its very best.
Thank you to the brilliant team. We will be back soon!

Honestly one of the best museums I have ever visited. The staff at this hidden gem made sure myself, Alex (brother) and my dad felt welcome and showed us around the museum. The information and artefacts at this place are truly one of a kind and really show the heroism and sacrifice that the men and women of bomber command made in the fight against tyranny. All the volunteers and staff are truly amazing and show such care for the museum and it's history. I cannot recommend this place enough plus they have a wonderful cafe and a genuine ww2 VIP C-47 Dakota

"My name is Christine Brough and I visited that wonderful memorial to 106 Sqn on 9th October 2021
I would like to extend my heart felt thanks to all those wonderful volunteers I met. Roger and 2 other gentlemen and the lady in the shop were all so very kind in helping me find information about my wonderful late father, John Edward Brough. Whilst the day itself was very traumatic emotionally for me, to see my fathers name in clear view (on the memorial wall) was truly wonderful.
Please, please if you are able, pass on my thanks to those volunteers who helped me whilst I was there with my partner. What a wonderful tribute to those men from 106 Sqn.
One volunteer said to me that my father was a hero. I already thought that as his daughter, but for a stranger to say that about my late father was like how winning the lottery must feel.
Thank you again for keeping 106 Sqn so much alive.
Take care stay safe.
