International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) Partnership Day – KS3
The KS3 IBCC Partnership day is a fantastic opportunity to visit 2 sites within Lincolnshire, learning about Sgt Mohand Singh (a Lancaster air gunner) and his crew, who sadly perished when their aircraft crashed. Arriving at the IBCC you will start by locating Sgt Singh on the memorial wall and paying respects before then moving inside to view the exhibition hall and the opportunity to try on some replica kit worn by the crew. You will then self-transport to Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre (MAVC) to eat lunch and receive STEM booklets, clipboards and pencils.
The MAVC session will be self-directed and give the students the chance to learn more about the crew, with our various displays completing a history-based booklet. You’ll then head to the Dakota Hangar and complete a STEM booklet covering hydraulics, navigation and communication. You’ll also get the chance to climb on board the aircraft making learning much more immersive than could be possible without this great teaching aid.
All areas with the exception of the inside of the Dakota and air-raid shelter are accessible for wheelchair users, but we do have a visual information pack that shows what it is like inside.
Charges for the day are £7 per child, this includes access to both sites, STEM booklets, pencils and a clipboard (pencils and clipboards to be returned before departure).
We recommend 4 hours total for both sites and this includes the travel time between.
If you wish to book this session then please request a joint booking form through the Learning coordinator.
