Youth Group STEM Evening
The youth group STEM evening is aimed at children ages 11+ and takes place in our Dakota hangar. You’ll be provided with a STEM activity book that covers hydraulics, navigation and communication as well as get involved at activity stations for flying controls, navigation and morse code. You’ll also have time climb on board our Dakota.
Starting off with a health and safety brief you’ll then be split into groups of 4-5 to then work your way around the hangar and Dakota as you complete your booklets.
The booklet is designed to introduce a topic and then ask some questions to check understanding. The activity stations then aim to develop some of the topics in a more practical manner.
Flying Controls: Learning about what each of the primary flying controls does and spending some time making a paper aeroplane and seeing how it flies.
Navigation: Learn how to take a bearing on a flying chart and see if you have what it takes to be a navigator.
Morse Code: Have a go at sending and decoding morse messages.
All areas with the exception of the inside of the Dakota are accessible for wheelchair users, but we do have a visual information pack that shows what it is like inside.
Charges for the evening are £5 per child.
The evening runs for 2 hours with a start time between 1800 and 1930, with a maximum of 20 children.
