Youth Group Activity Evening
The youth group activity evening is an immersive evening of learning, which can be tailored to achieve the aims of specific badges/awards. When you arrive on site it’s straight into a briefing to set the scene for the evening. The children will learn what it was like to be a new crewmember at RAF Metheringham. Being shown where they will live and work, refresh the recent training they completed (you will be sent some pre-visit information), before experiencing an air raid in our very own WW2 shelter.
You will then be split into two groups of 15 (if required) and take part in two activities:
All areas with the exception of the inside of the Dakota and Air Raid experience are accessible for wheelchair users, but we do have a visual information pack that shows what it is like inside.
Charges for the evening are £5 per child, which includes our MAVC cloth badge.
The evening runs for 2 hours with a start time between 1800 and 1930, with a maximum of 32 children.
You will then be split into two groups of 15 (if required) and take part in two activities:
- The Dakota experience where you can climb on board our Dakota aircraft (optional worksheets on flying controls and the phonetic alphabet are also available).
- A narrator led drama re-enactment of a Lancaster ditching at sea, based on a true story of 106 Squadron. Including a session on wartime food.
