RAF Metheringham Experience Day – KS2

‘The Put yourself in their Shoes’ RAF Metheringham Experience day is an immersive day of learning. When you arrive on site, you will be straight into a briefing to set the scene for the day. The children will learn what it was like to be a new member of a crew at RAF Metheringham. You are shown where you will live and work, refresh your recent training as a new member of the RAF (you will be sent some pre-visit information), as well as learning about wartime food and what it was like for families during the war. Before then experiencing an air raid prior to lunch in the mess hall.

In the afternoon you will take part in two sorties, including a drama re-enactment of a ditching at sea and a chance to climb on board our very own WW2 Dakota aircraft.  Finishing the day with a debrief on their return to base and a remembrance ceremony.

All areas with the exception of the inside of the Dakota and Air Raid experience are accessible for wheelchair users, but we do have a visual information pack that shows what it is like inside.

Charges for the day are £7 per child and the day runs from 1000 until 1400 with a maximum of 32 children.

If you are a Lincolnshire School, you may be able to claim a contribution for transport costs back through Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire and we can give you those details when you book.
