2026 Events at Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre 
​We normally hold 8 lectures during the season in comfortable surroundings, with guest speakers presenting aviation or military related presentations to both members and visitors, over the course of approximately 2 hours. See below for more details.

Cost for non-members is £7 per person payable on the door. Tickets can be purchased on the door - includes tea/coffee and biscuits.
Members - FREE on production of a valid membership card or proof of online purchase.
You can join as a member on the night or go online beforehand.

Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre 2026 Lecture Programme



We are pleased to announce that our full 2026 lecture programme is now confirmed thanks to some great work by new Lecture Coordinator, Ray Sellers, ably assisted by Kate Sell who gathers all the information needed to promote each event. 



As per last year, lectures are free to members presenting a valid membership card on the evening. For non-members, lectures cost £7.00 per person per event. This is payable at reception on arrival or tickets can be purchased in advance through our online shop.

Lecture Night, Wednesday 28th October 2026 - ​"The Big Wing" presented by ​Group Captain Tim Willbond, OBE, DL, RAF (Retired)

​Our final lecture of 2026 is presented by Group Captain Tim Willbond, OBE, DL, RAF (Retired) . Tim is a retired RAF Group Captain who plied his trade as a battle manager during the Cold War when we were preparing to fight the second “Battle of Britain”. 

"The Big Wing" is a topic that many WW2 aviation enthusiasts are aware of but not necessarily truly familiar with. This talk takes the subject to the next level. 

The Big Wing controversy was something that should have been stifled at birth but it was not and it became a significant issue that had serious repercussions.

The controversy was about battle management in the Battle of Britain which is the purview of the commanders and the talk examines the issues from this perspective, dispels myths, looks at the consequences and identifies the one man who is to blame.

As usual, the lecture will take place in the Peter Scoley Hall. Doors open at 7.00 PM and the lecture starts at 7.30 PM. There will be a short interval around 8.15 PM with the lecture normally closing around 9.45 PM. Entry is free for members presenting a valid membership card.
